who call themselves by His name
It is the first day of the month of December 2018, my thoughts turning to the hope of the season, but I am in despair. Even the rain outside is siding with me. The signs of hope have left me, and the lights and decorations that are lifted around the streets are but trinkets. There is no glory in them for me. What has happened to my heart.
In history such times happen. For Israel, there was great hope that one day there would come a messiah, the deliverer. Yes, they had many deliverers before, that our Heavenly Father sent. Abraham was called out to be a father of many nations, Issac and then Jacob from which the twelve tribes came from, sons to whom the nation of Israel descended from. A people that God could call His own, His very beloved. “For you are a holy people to the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth” (Deuteronomy 14:2)
Peter reminded us in Acts 3:22, For Moses indeed said to the fathers, “YAHWEH your Elohim will raise up to you a Prophet from among your brothers, One like me; you shall hear Him according to all things,” whatever He may speak to youDeuteronomy 18:15 Moses declared that one day another deliverer would come.
Like Moshe, many prophets would declare blessings for those in covenant with Him, to those that would follow and obey YHWH. In Deuteronomy the Israelites were told to include the alien. Debut 11:14, “Therefore love the foreigner; for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.” Elsewhere in scripture we can see that even people from other nations (gentiles) could join in the dance. Paul the apostle in Romans 11 explained that we are coheirs in Messiah by faith. Are we as gentiles not grafted in to the promise as adopted sons and daughters? This was our Heavenl Fathers’ provision that goes back to His established promise under Abraham.
Now the LORD said to Abram,
“Go forth from your country,
And from your relatives
And from your father’s house,
To the land which I will show you;
And I will make you a great nation,
And I will bless you,
And make your name great;
And so you shall be a blessing;
And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse.
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”
When the prophet Isaiah spoke, he proclaimed that messiah would come
“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;Isaiah 9:6
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”
And His name we were told, was Imanuel, meaning God with us. YAWEH was the father’s name and the son named YAHSHUA at His birth. Have you heard? No, not the hallmark christmas story version. For many traditions of men have corrupted the truth and continue to do so.
A Father and a Son, A King and a Kingdom
Perhaps that is why I lament. Yet, I also celebrate. The great truth of my heart is that our Heavenly Father saw fit to send His only begotten son, that whosoever trusts in Him (Jew or gentile), will never perish, but have eternal life. He gave His life for me, not just willingly, but gladly. Like the song ‘How Great Thou Art’, there are times when I “scarce can take it in.”
There is joy in the Kingdom of our Heavenly Father and in His son, the only wise King. In the Bible version of the messiah’s arrival in Matthew 2 verse 1, we read that the wise men came from the east; they were not men of Israel, nor of the faith in the tradition of the Jews of that time. They likely came from Persia (which was Babylon)) where Iran and Iraq are today. To the Jews they would be foreigners, but they were called Magi, which meant learned men. In fact, the Hebrew word for wise men is used much more frequently in the Old Testament to designate this class of advisors.
For a deeper understanding of this event as related to ancient astronomy watch the Star of Bethlehem as told by Bob Larson. A great mystery is revealed in this story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkbfVDznbc0&list=PLfpRySqe-6fc89q5hmGcr8xwIjhWCuGLH
The Babylonian Captivity
History and math agree that it was nearly 600 years before Yahshua was born that Daniel the prophet was also deported as a youth to Babylon. He served under three kings during the ‘Captivity’ of the seventy year exile.
Jeremiah 25:4-11, “Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Because you have not obeyed My words, 9behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land and against its inhabitants and against all these nations round about; and I will utterly destroy them and make them a horror and a hissing, and an everlasting desolation. Moreover, I will take from them the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp. This whole land will be a desolation and a horror, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years.Jeremiah the Prophet
Historians say that Daniel remained there after the people of Judah were released. Their captivity ended in 538 B.C. Matthew tells us that from the exile in Babylon until the messiah was 14 generations. Historians calculate that Yahshua the messiah (his given name at birth) was born in 4 B.C. This means that Yahshua would have been a toddler when he was visited by the ‘wise men’. Daniel also foretold of the coming of the Messiah in Daniel 9:24-26. I mention this for two reasons. For even in this 70 year time of exile God was faithful to keep his remnant. Daniel discovered from reading the prophet Jeremiah, that the 70 prescribed years of exile where about to be completed with about three years remaining.
The exile was a time of sorrow for the Jews; they were greatly humbled to be taken from their ‘promised’ land. All those of the northern tens tribes had already been dispersed 160 years before the remaining tribe of Judah was removed. Now the only remnant of Judah and Benjamin of the south were taken captive to Babylon under King Neuchadnezzar. If you know your history, you would recall that Cyrus the Great, the King of Persia had been called by name nearly 160 years before he was born by the prophet Isaiah (44:27), to conquer the great city of Babylon.
The prophecy about Cyrus (Around 536 B.C.).
“It is I who says of Cyrus, ‘He is My shepherd!
And he will perform all My desnire.’
And he declares of Jerusalem, ‘She will be built,’
And of the temple, ‘Your foundation will be laid.’” Isaiah 44:28
Two hundred years before Babylon is conquered, the prophet Isaiah had written of a great ruler named Cyrus who allows the Jews to rebuild their temple. When the scroll from Isaiah is read to Cyrus, he commands that the captive Jews of Babylon be allowed to return to rebuild their holy city.
. . . and the Jews were released to return back to their land in Israel. This happened in 538 B.C. You can read more about this prophetic history of Cyrus here; http://www.biblehistory.net/newsletter/cyrus.htm a story worthy of its own celebration.
In our time, we too can see the writing on the wall and hopefully read ‘between the lines’ as Daniel did.
All of this to say that we are captive to many things in Amerika. There is a King like Cyrus who has said he would drain the swamp, perhaps in the same fashion as King Cyrus. In the historical account the Euphrates river was diverted to another marsh, which resembles what is happening in America today. A great diversion. Like the shell game played with coconut shells, the prize is skirted away while a diversion and slight of hand takes place.
Amerika In our Time
In America in our time and In our generation, our Heavenly Father has sent his evangelists and prophets, pleading with us to “turn from our wicked ways” and return to Him. There was Billy Graham, Keith Green, and David Wilkerson, all of these men who have called for us to turn our hearts back to God as a people and as a nation founded ‘under God.’ These men all spoke fearlessly and pleaded with Christian Americans to return to God. And all of these aforementioned men served faithfully. They have passed on in the time of their generation.
We as a ‘nation under God’ have had much time to turn back from our rebellion. Just as Israel and the southern Kingdom of Judah did, we also have turned away from our Heavenly Father, and we are blind and naked like the congregation spoken of in Revelation and don’t realize our true condition. And like Judah we have been captive in Babylon, without even realizing it.
”because you say, I am rich, and I am made rich, and I have need of nothing, and do not know that you are miserable and a wanderer and poor and blind and naked. I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire, that you may be rich;; and white garments, that you may be clothed, and your shame and nakedness may not be revealed. And annoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. “I, as many as I love I rebuke and I chasten.” Be zealous, then and repent”Revelation 3: 16-19
The Changing of the Guard
Billy Graham passed away in January this year of 2018. At the memorial service for Billy Graham, Anne Graham Lotz, his daughter remarked that Dr. Grahams death occurred on the same date as Moses death, the 6th of Adar on the Hebrew Calendar. Surely this is a prophetic sign for this next generation. http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/mar2018/jamesb34.htm
Many in this next generation will be willing to hear the voice of the great shepherd, though they have not heard His voice yet, they will. And they will be willing to cross over the Jordan to receive the promises of God that my generation passed on. Although some of us of the ‘old guard’ did touch the hem of His garment, now all of us together must prepare in the same manner that Joshua commanded Israel in that day. To prepare for the battle ahead.
Daniel responded upon learning that his people were about to be released from captivity.
Daniel 9:3 So I gave my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth and ashes.And Daniel stood in the gap for His people
Daniel 9:4-6; I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed and said, “Alas, O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and loving kindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, 5we have sinned, committed iniquity, acted wickedly and rebelled, even turning aside from Your commandments and ordinances. “Moreover, we have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, our princes, our fathers and all the people of the land.
It is in the same spirit that I lament like Daniel and I write this with tears.
Prayer for America
For the children of Amerika who call themselves by His name.
We have read when the children of Israel had abandoned their God, the Father of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The children of America have been abandoned by their country, but God has not abandoned them.
I looked for a man to stand in the gap, and I found none.
Eek 22:30 And I sought among them a man to wall up a wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.
Isaiah 59:16 And He saw that there was no man, and He was astonished that there was no intercessor. And His own arm saved for Him; and His righteousness sustained Him.
We are like the children of Israel, we as believers in the Son have made friendship with the world where we could enjoy our meat and potatoes rather than be fed by our Heavenly Father; His manna the bread of heaven who is Yashua, and streams of living water, a stream of the living God for us, that we would thirst no more.
Heavenly Father, forgive us for wanting to go back to Egypt. You prepared a place for us in the wilderness that we would learn to trust you as children chosen to leave the slavery of the world. We were all slaves to our sin until you set us free at the Passover, Yashua the lamb that was slain from the foundations of the earth, His blood we placed over the door posts of our hearts.
You showed us your tender mercies in the desert and we turned away from you. In your long-suffering you sent your servants the prophets to remind us of your love, the court room of heaven heard the prayers of your servants, the ones who walked with you. They pleaded for our souls and our lives, that we would yet live and be a people of praise, a family that would truly reflect your glory! The glory of your Son, your only begotten, the firstborn of many.
How amazing it is that we were chosen to be your sons and daughters. You led us into the promised land to give us rest from all the work of our hands, to remind us that all we have and all we are comes from your outstretched hand, your tenderness, your mercy, your joy and laughter for your children, all of your love. You have withheld no good thing from your sons and daughters.
Forgive us Father, for fighting among ourselves, taking and stealing from our own family out of covetousness. Forgive our jealousy over one another, our desire to be kings to to rule over one another instead of loving as you have shown us to do, and we have hated and hurt one another for the love of money, we have brought a curse upon the land for all the wars and blood spilled for the want of rule and power over our own brothers and sisters. We have thrown them in the pit just like Joseph and his beautiful coat of many nations has been stained by blood to cover up our sin. How can we stand before you on that Great Day of Gathering when all the families of the earth stand beside us? What shall we say? Did we love them, even our neighbors as you have asked us to, or did we turn away from them?
Forgive us Father, cleanse our land as only you can, we cannot wash our guilt and shame away by our own righteousness, for we have none, we are blind and miserable and naked, clothed in our shame. Who shall deliver us from this great weight of death that we have clothed ourselves in? They are filthy rags that we have chosen to hide ourselves with so that we could hide in the dust and dirt of the earth. How can we stand in the glory of your light and your truth? We have trampled it under our feet, now we are ashamed. Who shall rescue us from this great plight that we have brought upon ourselves? We cry out to you in our affliction and our pain, Forgive us Father, cleanse our hearts and our hands as only you can, mercy Lord! We have greatly sinned against Heaven and earth, the footstool of your great throne.
Revive us Father, lest there is nothing else left to praise you. Cleanse our temple, as you have done before, cleanse our hearts of all the idols we have made for ourselves, this day come to your temple. We gladly bow at your feet, make us a family of praise, a family that truly obeys you, loves you and loves one another, for we are destitute and are but dust without the breath of your praise in our dried up hearts. Refresh us again with your living waters, make us a people that are befitting to praise you.
Thank you for sending your son, Yashua to show us the way out of the wilderness, to lead us to green pastures. We willingly cleanse ourselves by the blood of the lamb preparing our hearts and our minds, our bodies to be a living sacrifice, that we may walk in a manner that is pleasing to our King. Though our garments have been soiled, we wash them in the blood of the lamb, that we could present ourselves before you without spot or blemish, a Holy bride befitting your son, your beloved in whom you are well pleased.
Prayer for America, Written by Don Penner, first writing Dec 2017 during the season of Hannukah.
We are about to enter an unprecedented time in American history. Through the lens of history, and seeing that history rhymes, the events that follow the ‘Fire and Rain’ in America in the natural is a foreshadow of God’s fire of refining and then will come the times of refreshing of the Holy Spirit. There will be a ‘season’ of cleansing in the land to help us to prepare our hearts before we are able to cross over into the promised land. Yahshua who we call Jesus is our Joshua.
